5 Small Business Facebook Marketing Tips to Bring You More Business

Putting your business out there on Facebook is essential if you serve consumers. But most of us have struggled with the all-too-common challenges of putting in the effort for a little while, followed by the sound of crickets from the masses we’re hoping to reach.

So how do we turn this around? How do we get the right people to like, comment, and share their way to becoming money-spending evangelical customers?

It’s not hard – but it does take some strategy. Here are 5 tips to help you create profitable connections using Facebook:

TIP 1 – MAKE A COMMITMENT

Social media may happen at the speed of light, but that doesn’t mean your social media marketing will. You really need to think of it as relationship building using a digital medium. And building relationships – really meaningful ones – can take time. So don’t expect miracles overnight. Commit to your Facebook marketing for at least six months to realize its potential.

TIP 2 – AVOID THE WRONG CONNECTIONS

While it may be tempting to get anyone and everyone to become a fan of your page on Facebook, including your friends, relatives, and even some cheaply-obtained followers in some third word country, this is actually doing you a major disservice. Facebook rewards Fan Pages for providing value-based relevant content to their followers. The more in-line your fans are with your message, the more you will benefit.

TIP 3 – DON’T MAKE IT A CHORE

Facebook is a “social” network, and, as such, really needs to be centered around making connections, having conversations, and creating entry points for prospects to do business with you. That means the best way for you to approach your content creation is to be genuine, share things your fans will care about, and have fun doing it.

TIP 4 – CAT PICTURES ARE OKAY

The two most shared images subject on Facebook, it’s often said, are cats and bacon. Why? Who cares! But it’s important to remember that your content doesn’t always need to center around selling or promoting your goods or services. In fact, it’s a bad idea to be overtly promotional on Facebook. So lighten up (as appropriate) and share a cat photo once in a while.

TIP 5 – TRAIN YOUR FOLLOWERS

This may be the most important thing you can do… train your fans and followers to take action. Invite them to comment, guide them to giveaway opportunities, and include links where they can discover more about things which matter to them. The more they get in the habit of interacting with your Facebook, content, the easier it will be to get them to open their wallets and spend money with you.
